Make sure the threat is over
You are safe first. Holster or safely secure the firearm. Do not be holding the gun when officers arrive.

Call 911 first
Identify yourself as the victim who was attacked and had to defend yourself. Give your location and a brief physical description of yourself. Request police and medical. Do not give a detailed narrative — the call is recorded.

When officers arrive
Hands visible. Comply with commands. Identify yourself as the 911 caller. Say something like: “That person attacked me. I was in fear for my life. I will cooperate fully but I want my attorney present before answering questions.”

Call your attorney or membership hotline
Immediately. Have the number saved. Do not discuss the incident with bystanders, family (except to say you are safe), or on social media.

Get medically evaluated
Even if you feel fine. Adrenaline hides injuries and a medical record can matter later.
